Biolan Oy




History

Biolan Oy was founded by Mr. Hannes Kariniemi. He was the man who had taught us Finns to eat chicken as early as in the 1960's. Mr. Kariniemi was a brave visionary with unbeatable businessman's instinct. He saw that along with the popularity of broiler farming also the heaps of manure created would inevitably grow. Any other person would have considered this a problem, but not Hannes Kariniemi - he realised in them an excellent business idea.

1974 Biolan Oy was founded and as the first company in the world it introduced granulized natural fertilizers. The required production equipment and machinery were developed in-house.

1977 Biolan realised its first export sales.

1978 Biolan introduced the first ever composter on the Finnish market.

1984 Biolan participated the first time the International Garden Fair in Cologne. The new product, the entirely natural nutrient pin attracted a lot of attention.

1987 The new, and most modern in Europe, fertlizer, growing soil and peat factory was inaugurated in Eura.

1987 The association Euran Yrittäjät awarded Biolan the entrepreneurship prize.

1987 The municipality of Eura awarded Biolan their entrepreneurship prize.

1992 In the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, were published the names of those companies that have committed themselves to the priciples of sustainable development. One of them was Biolan Oy.

1992 In the test, where the composters' various quality indicators were compared, the Biolan Composter 220 was the only product, which was awarded with the highly valued Nordic Ecolabel.

 

 

1992 Biolan did one of the largest investment of machinery in its history. It included, for example, a new processing line for garden mould. Also the area of production space was increased.

1992 Biolan was elected for receiver of the entrepreneurship prize of the province Satakunta.

1995 Biolan was awarded with the national entrepreneurship prize.

1995 Biolan was awarded the Pro Eura medal by the municipality of Eura.

2001 The natural fertilizers, substrates and composters were accompanied by small-scale waste water treatment plants.

2004 The Biolan Greywaterfilter was awarded the local INNOSUOMI award.

2008 The Novarbo-system developed by Biolan, which enables construction of completely closed greenhouse, was awarded with the INNOSUOMI 08 of Satakunta prize.

2009 The Novarbo-system won the national process category in the European Environmental Prize contest.

2010 The Novarbo-system also participated in the higher category all-European contest.

2010 The new ecological office building of Biolan, which represents experimental architecture, was completed in Eura. It is unique in the world.
